Following last week’s gut-wrenching late loss to Newbury, after leading 17-3 at the break, Maids will be desperate to impress against Swindon, who did the double over them last season, as well as winning 52-23 earlier in this league campaign.

Swindon themselves will be keen to bounce back, following a 72-19 home drubbing at the hands of champions-elect, Towcestrians. They will be led by fly-half, Adam Westall, who is pivotal to the dangerous Swindon back line, and also Ben Saville at hooker, who was absent from the Swindon team that beat Maids in October.

This week, Maidenhead give a start to veteran heart throb, Alex Gallina, who we caught up with, for a short chat:

Good having you back in the side recently, and seeing you score a few tries- have you been enjoying yourself?

“I have enjoyed myself, we are playing a style of running rugby I like which really helps and this team is a great bunch of lads. Just looking to have the best try to minutes played ratio at the club”

What went wrong at Newbury?

“We threw away the Newbury game. We needed to simplify the game plan and play for territory and build phases in their half of the field, it would have taken the referee out of the equation but we got dragged into a tempo of game that helped build their momentum that eventually got them the result. Tough to take at the time but we will learn a lot from that result as we won’t do it again.”

What do you want to see from the boys tomorrow versus Swindon?

No real changes from previous games. We play with confidence at home so as long as we are solid at set plays and work hard at rucks to provide quick ball for our backs then Swindon won’t be able to live with us.

Maids give a first start to Gallina, since the opening day of the season, since when a nail injury sustained in a model shoot for Gay Times has kept him out. Tom Simpson is taking his cat on holiday to Bognor Regis, so misses out, whilst Frankie O’Keeffe is in the final stages of his hormone treatment in Thailand.
